Weight Loss - Learning The Basics Of Weight Loss

Learning the basics of weight loss will certainly make it a lot easier for you to lose weight. Nothing too complicated here just simple steps that need to be addressed in order to make your weight loss plan successfull.

Eat 5-6 meals/snacks which are spaced out evenly throughout the day.

Try and eat around 5-6 meals or snacks a day. This may seem a lot but it will help you to feel full and satisfied throughout the day. Now when I say 5-6 meals or snacks, I don’t mean large ones. You could have for example 3 cooked meals along with 2 snacks throughout the day. This is a good habit to get into and you will enjoy your food and diet a lot more as a result.

Drink plenty of water

Drinking plenty of water whilst on a diet is always a good idea. Not only will water keep you feeling hydrated and energized throughout the day, it will also help flush harmful toxins out of your system. Try and get the majority of your food from carbohydrates, proteins and fats in that order.

A good number to shoot for is that 50% of calories come from carbohydrates, 30% from protein and 20% from good fats. Bear in mind these numbers will vary from different sources so to put it simply, the diet should have the higher percentage coming from carbohydrates, then protein and then fats.

DO NOT under eat.

I touched on this one earlier on in this article but it is important not to under eat whilst on a diet. Doing so will increase the chances of you blowing the diet completely. If this does happen the chances are you will eat a lot more than you normally would when not on a diet. This can cause you to put on even more weight than you originally had which really is not what you want. Seriously under eating can also lead to health problems and mood swings leaving you feeling tired and drained which is why we are NOT going to do this.

Try not to skip meals

Skipping meals can leave us feeling hungry and unfulfilled encouraging us to indulge on the nearest item of junk food available to us. This we don’t want.

Prepare for failure but get back on track

There is more than likely going to become a time when you bend the rules of your diet by eating something you know you shouldn’t or even worse having a day of eating anything you like. It will happen. It’s easy to think it’s all over but it really isn’t. If at first you fail, try again. It’s simple. Try and learn from your mistakes and find out why and how this happened. Maybe you gave into temptation; maybe you skipped a few meals or lost your motivation. Whatever it was learn how to overcome it. It’s only normal to fail at something during your first time or even your second time. But guess what……. you have not failed yet. A day of eating anything is not going to magically undo all your hard work and put on those 6 pounds that you just lost. It will most probably have an effect on your weight at the end of the week so I would suggest waiting till the following week to weigh yourself.

Keep it simple.

You really want to try and keep your diet as simple as possible. There are so many diets out there nowadays that claim to do just about everything. The simple fact of the matter is, if you take in fewer calories that your body needs to maintain itself, over a set period of time you’re going to lose weight. It really is that simple. You can eat chocolate in the diet and as long as your total calories do not exceed the amount needed for your body to maintain its current weight, you’re not going to put on weight, you will possibly lose it. The diet is all about the calories that are in it not which foods are in it. Of course it is good to eat healthy and I would encourage you to do so as healthy foods such as fruit, vegetables and whole grains generally have fewer calories in them and are very good for your body.
